{"id":1887,"date":"2019-10-05T18:40:03","date_gmt":"2019-10-05T17:40:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hhfs.org.uk\/hhfs\/?p=1887"},"modified":"2020-01-16T14:01:34","modified_gmt":"2020-01-16T13:01:34","slug":"meeting-5th-november-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hhfs.org.uk\/hhfs\/?p=1887","title":{"rendered":"Meeting &#8211; 5th November 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Our next meeting at St Saviour\u2019s Church Hall is on Tuesday 5<sup>th<\/sup> November 2019 at 8.00pm when we will have a presentation on\u00a0&#8216;The Earl of Dudley&#8217;s Railway&#8217; by Ned Williams.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In 1829, while George Stephenson was building his &#8220;Rocket,&#8221; the Earl of Dudley ran &#8220;Agenoria&#8221; on his pioneering Black Country railway linking his collieries with the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Although it rarely carried passengers, this railway grew into a huge complex industrial system that centred on the Earl&#8217;s Round Oak Steel Works at Brierley Hill.\u00a0\u00a0This talk covers the system, as well as its history, the locomotives and men who served the line,\u00a0including\u00a0how this all relates to the remains\u00a0that can be seen today.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>On Tuesday 3<sup>rd<\/sup> December 2019 we will be enjoying a presentation of \u2018Christmas Songs Through the Ages: From Boar\u2019s Head to Bing\u2019 by Richard Churchley.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Richard is an experienced local historian, specialising in areas of Worcestershire, Warwickshire and North Gloucestershire. He combines his historical and academic research interests with performing music, both solo and in various bands, playing a wide variety of instruments. This promises to be a festive and entertaining evening. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Visitors are most welcome at all our events.
