The story of \u2018Mary Queen of Scots\u2019 is one of murder and mystery. A ripping yarn perhaps? Although a great deal is known about her, there are sufficient gaps in the facts to have allowed historians to regularly reinvent her over the past 400 years. Was she a wicked murdering adulteress or an innocent victim? These were the questions put by our speaker this month, Dr Gillian White, but ultimately left to members to decide for themselves. An engaging and eloquent speaker, Dr White introduced us to the dramatic intrigues, the unsuitable husbands and finally the plots which made her a constant threat to the throne of Elizabeth I, and ultimately to her dramatic end on the block.<\/p>\n

The Society has now launched a new book entitled \u2018Hagley: A Village at War 1914 – 1918<\/em>\u2019, researched and written by local author and member, Pat Dunn. It is based on the \u2018Hagley Parish Magazines\u2019 of the period and describes how the people of Hagley dealt with the problems presented by the Great War on the Home Front.
