There was a definite feeling of nostalgia by the end of December\u2019s meeting where members and visitors were invited to search their memories to recollect rhymes and games they had played in childhood. Our speaker, John Turrell, who has spent fifteen years researching \u2018Children\u2019s Games, Songs and Rhymes in Hereford and Worcester\u2019 soon had his audience actively involved in chanting rhymes, clapping rhythms and even skipping \u2013 all of which many had not done for some years! However, members were able to fortify themselves with Christmas cake served with refreshments afterwards.<\/p>\n
It appears that rules for the same games vary with geographical location with some of the tougher ones represented in the Northern Counties.<\/p>\n
To mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, the Society wishes to record the attitudes, activities and contributions of the people of Hagley during the war as recorded in the \u2018Hagley Parish Magazines\u2019 published throughout this period.<\/p>\n
While we have a good knowledge of villagers who died in the conflict, we have incomplete records of those who served and survived. We would be grateful for any names, stories, letters, diarys or pictures which your family might have of relatives or friends who were involved, to help complete the story of Hagley\u2019s involvement.
