{"id":1193,"date":"2011-11-05T16:25:47","date_gmt":"2011-11-05T15:25:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hhfs.org.uk\/hhfs\/?p=1193"},"modified":"2013-05-16T21:30:39","modified_gmt":"2013-05-16T20:30:39","slug":"news-letter-11th-november-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hhfs.org.uk\/hhfs\/?p=1193","title":{"rendered":"Newsletter &#8211; November 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>48 of us visited the Lord Leycester Hospital in Warwick in October and enjoyed a tour of the building by The Master, followed by a town walk led by the Town Crier.<\/p>\n<p>The November meeting was particularly poignant for outgoing Meetings Secretary, Joan Barwick.\u00a0 Robin Skerratt\u2019s talk on \u201cThe Son of a Village Policeman in the 1940s\u201d was the last meeting she had arranged after thirteen years in post and her retirement was marked with the presentation of a bouquet.<\/p>\n<p>Joan\u2019s final year has seen some superb presentations and Robin\u2019s was no exception.\u00a0 He enthralled the audience with stories of his life in Wychbold, where his father was the local constable.\u00a0 A former Guardsman, George stood no nonsense and was well regarded by the local community.\u00a0 Robin took us on a \u2018virtual walk\u2019 around the village during the period of his own childhood and we were introduced to the many characters and heard the, often amusing, stories of how they came to be involved with the Law.\u00a0 Such was the quality of the presentation that it was easy for the audience to transport themselves back to a time when life was simpler, slower and with few modern conveniences.\u00a0 All this was presented without any visual aids other than a table full of mementos of the Police and Wychbold.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhfs.org.uk\/\">www.hhfs.org.uk<\/a> has recently been updated by the addition of further photographs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>48 of us visited the Lord Leycester Hospital in Warwick in October and enjoyed a tour of the building by The Master, followed by a town walk led by the Town Crier.
