She worked in what was Strickley&#8217;s grocer&#8217;s shop at 5 Station Road from age 17<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/hhfs.org.uk\/hhfs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Madelaine-Wood-interview-all-23-9-1999comp.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mary Downing, born in 1937, tells us that her father owned and kept the Station Inn in Worcester Road from 1935-54 and also had other business interests<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/hhfs.org.uk\/hhfs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Mary-Downing-interview-18-12-2017comp.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fred Tate was born in 1926 and talks, in 1999, about the farms and farming in Hagley village&nbsp; before and during World War II and into the 1960s.
