Our meeting this month was a social event with savouries and wine followed by a showing of films of Hagley from the 1950’s. These included the Queen’s visit in 1957 and clips of how Hagley celebrated the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977. For some members these films will have brought back happy childhood memories.

The late Peter Bloore was a long time resident of Middlefield Lane. A project which he left unfinished is a history of the Lane and its residents, past and present. He collected many anecdotes and reminiscences from residents over the years and we would like to see the project completed. If you have photos or stories related to the Lane and its residents we would like to hear from you. You can either write them down or we can visit you and take notes. Please contact HHFS.

Our meeting on Tuesday 7th July at 8pm in St. Saviour’s Church Hall sees a presentation by Alan Thornton on ‘The Cadbury Story’. George Cadbury was the grandson of the founder of the Cadbury business and together with his brother Richard relocated their factory to the then outskirts of Birmingham. They developed the Bournville estate to improve the living conditions of their workers and families. The talk will include a showing of an award winning film of how the factory was in the 1950’s. Visitors are most welcome at all our events.
