Newsletter – May 2014

January 1st, 2014 by JCope

In past years we have had two meetings in May but this year, for a change, we combined our usual monthly meeting with our annual social get-together. This seems to have been well received since nearly 60 members and guests attended. Instead of a speaker, we had a ‘film show’ of some digitised cine and video films taken of events in Hagley by amateur enthusiasts since the 1950s. These included ‘The Queen’s Visit to Hagley in 1957’, Betty Hill’s video which she made of Hagley in 2000 to celebrate the Millennium and ‘The Hagley celebrations for the Queen’s Jubilee in 2002’. The latter causing special interest as many members recognised themselves, friends and close relatives. If there is sufficient interest we may show some of the other films we have next year. We would be pleased to hear from you if you have any old black and white or colour cine footage showing people or places in Hagley.

A DVD containing searchable images of almost all the ‘Hagley Parish Magazines’ from 1862 to 2013 has been produced which will be a valuable resource for anyone undertaking research into Hagley life in the future. It is priced at £10 and will be available at our next meeting or can be ordered from our Vice Chairman on 885964.

Our meeting on Tuesday 1st July at 8pm, sees Howard Robinson presenting ‘Oliver Cromwell and the Battle of Worcester’. Visitors are most welcome at all our events – see Home page for details and contacts.
